Fashion & Beauty from South Africa

Hi babes!

So we've recently attended the L'Oréal Professionnel hair roadshow:

It was such an experience!

From the latest colour trends to the most exciting new hair styles this show had it all, not to mention world renowned hair artist Christophe Gallilet.

His work is simply intriguing to watch. While he may not speak the best of English, his hands certainly do the talking captivating the audience one scissor cut at a time.

The show featured the trendiest hair colours ranging from our 2016 faves:

Pastels to greys to rose gold

It's so evident that hair colour is now mirroring makeup.

The hottest new 2017 fall trends include "Foilyage" and "Nudebeige".

The styling of hair for this season is definitely moving away from that straight sleek look and towards that loose natural wavy look aka: "French girl hair" as Christophe puts it.

It's official 2017 will be the year of the brunette. French browns are going to be huge this year. The french brown colour palette is all about using multiple tones of colour within the brown shade to create a beautiful soft satiny finish that looks born-this-way, but better. Professionnel's new Brunette Bar can help you decide which look is right for you.

One of coolest features on the official L'Oréal Professionnel website is that you can locate a L'Oréal salon nearest to you for your convenience. You can also see every stylist in a particular salon and view all their previous work, now that is super sweet.

We've also met some amazing local talent from Durban.
@stylistbyvicks is one of them, his salon is situated in the chatsworth area and is definitely worth the trip.
He's pretty much booked all the time but if you can wait for an appointment he won't disappoint. He's quite innovative when it comes to colour and definitely adds his personal touch to the overall look. In my opinion he is a colour genius and has a passion and flare that can make any women look and feel like a millionaire bucks.

Have a look at some his bomb work:

@tessacooper1 is another stylist we met, she's situated in the westville area and is super good with all types of styling from everyday to bridal Tessa can do it all not to mention the fact that she can lay the most natural looking extensions. She creates beautiful looks with all lengths of hair and any texture. You won't go wrong by booking with her for any occasion.
Here's some of her stunning creations:

Be sure to follow these stylists for more amazing looks!

Thanks to L'Oréal Professionnel SA for having us it was such a blast, we really enjoyed the show and learning new techniques and ways to style hair. We also loved meeting our local talents.

Hope you beauts love this post and rock the new 2017 trends, bye bye bright hair, hello french girl bed head!!!

Welcome to our first feature of 2017!

When I came across Tamlyn's Instagram account, I found myself scrolling through her feed and wanting to know more about her. I couldn't wait to get the inside scoop on her style.

Firstly, a little background on Tamlyn, she is a model with DMH agency and is also studying towards a Bcom Degree in fashion at the London International School of Fashion in Randburg.

Here is what she had to say….

Tell us about yourself
Well I have a passion for fashion, I am a foodie at heart but by looking at me you could never tell. In my spare time I do a lot of shopping, sometimes it can get a bit extreme, but I’m working on my spending.

Describe your style

Well, it differs from day-to-day depending on my mood, I guess. It has a lot to do with what I see around. It’s definitely influenced by the Kardashian/Jenner girls.

Jacket: Edgars
Top: Sportscene
Shoes: Puma

Which fashion designers and fashion bloggers do you admire?

A fashion designer that I admire is not a typical option, it's Kanye West, I would say he is the biggest influence not only on my style but in my life as a whole, people constantly say that I have a "Kanye attitude" or "Kanye mentality", but in the end it all comes down to self-love.
With winter approaching, what’s your must-have item for the winter season?
My must have for winter has to be a long pair of black boots, preferably thigh highs.

#SAFWSLAY Tamlyn (Right) & Okebisgene (Left)
Jacket: Sissy Boy
Jeans: River Island
Boots: Cotton On

The one item you think completes a look?

The one item, I think that completes a look, has got to be confidence. With the way you carry yourself you could pull anything off.
Favourite places to shop and why?
My favourite places to shop: Top shop: they have stuff that one sometimes would not find in other stores. River Island: their jeans for the main reason because they are the perfect fit for my figure. More recently, H&M, because they have I would call it, a lot of clothing that are "Kanye colours". Also Mr Price most recently.

Top: Forever 21
Shorts: Factorie
Sock: Adidas
Shoes: Vans

Your favourite beauty/make up product you can’t live without?
The one beauty product I cannot live without has got to be my foundation. Which from Estee Lauder.
Favourite lipstick colour?
My favourite lipstick has got to be the MAC’s Whirl.

The one beauty trend you are loving right now?

One beauty trending I love at the moment, eyebrows, definitely eyebrows My fave brow products include Essence's Brow Kit and for an illuminator, the ABH Sun Kissed Glow kit, as well as the Urban Decay Illuminated Trio.

Top: Factorie
Jeans : Factorie

What’s in your everyday make up bag?
My make-up bag consists of firstly an eyebrow kit, foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, illuminator, contour kit, bronzer and lipstick and liner.

Your insta feed is on point, what's your number one tip for taking an OOTD picture.

For the ideal Instagram photo, my key elements are good lighting and location; I pay a lot of attention to my location and background.

H&M calls for a global movement to collect used clothes with its new “BRING IT” campaign.

H&M has kicked off the "Bring It" garment collecting campaign in all South African stores.

This campaign will run till the end of the week and customers are encouraged to bring any of their unwanted textiles (from any brand and in any condition) to any H&M store to be recycled.

In return, for every grocery size bag of unwanted items brought to our stores, customers will receive a 15% discount voucher to spend on their next H&M item of choice.

H&M first launched its worldwide Garment Collecting initiative in 2013 and has since then collected over 40,000 tonnes of clothing. Customers can bring any unwanted garments and textiles, from any brand and in any condition, to any H&M store, all year around.  The goal is to increase the number of garments collected, every year, so that we reach a total collected volume of 25,000 tonnes per year by 2020.

A brand-new film directed by Crystal Moselle will kick-off the next Garment Collecting campaign, Bring It, which is available on http://www.hm.com/za/. The campaign raises awareness on the importance of garment recycling. H&M wants to close the loop on fashion by giving customers an easy solution to hand in unwanted garments so they can be reused or recycled through H&M’s garment collecting initiative. By doing so, less garments go to landfill. The Bring It film tells the journey that unwanted garments go on after they have been collected in store. Through inspiring stories the film illustrates how the lifespan of a garment can be increased to keep it in the loop for as long as possible.

To provide fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way, H&M’s ambition is to work towards a change in the way fashion is made and enjoyed today. Closing the loop is a central commitment of H&M’s work towards a sustainable fashion future. The aim is to create a closed loop for textiles, so that unwanted clothes can be reused and recycled to create fresh textile fibers for new products. In turn, this will help to save natural resources and ensure that zero garments go to landfill.
